OBITUARY Conchita Pita September 14, 1939 – July 24, 2018 PITA, Conchita “Concepcion” Vila,78. The Cuban exile community has lost another pillar with the passing of Conchita Tuesday July 24, 2018. She was born in Havana, Cuba September 14, 1939.

She came to Tampa in 1961 and with little but love and determination built a family and a legacy that will survive into the future. Although she would always be Cubana she was a proud American Citizen for more than 50 years. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Antonio, son Anthony, daughters Marcia and Mayra, son-in-law Axel and grandchildren Alex, Cristina and Nina.

Working for the less fortunate has always been her passion. She was actively involved with Club 15 for more than 50 years and volunteered to help using her crafty talents to raise funds for those less fortunate and scholarships. She often said “education is something they can never take away from you”.

Mayor Sandra Freedman and Bob Buckhorn recognized her with several civic accolades & awarded her Tampa Hispanic Woman of the Year for Civic Involvement in 2002. Concha had an unshakable and unbreakable faith in God and devotion to the Virgin Mary through the Caridad del Cobre and the Virgin of Lourdes. For more than 40 years she would donate her time and talents even when ill to decorate the Caridad del Cobre for the yearly masses and to coordinate the little angels that would accompany her.

She will be remembered for all of this but especially for her loving, open heart and how she never treated anyone as a stranger. Concha, we will miss you terribly but you are in our hearts and have given us a road to follow in. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to TGH MICU 5C staff.

Donations in her name can made be made to Club 15. Family will receive friends from 10AM to 11AM on Saturday July 28th, 2018 at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church 5225 N. Himes Avenue, Tampa followed by a mass at 11AM procession and interment at Garden of Memories. Arrangements entrusted to Gonzalez Funeral Home (813)931-1833.
