Connie L. Whorley July 22, 1959 – May 14, 2019 Connie L. Whorley, 59, of Goodview, VA departed her life on May 14, 2019 after such a short battle with cancer. She was born on July 22, 1959 to the late Earnestine and Joe Gates. She was also preceded in death by uncles and aunts.

Connie had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a very hard working woman who spent many years working as a custodian for Bedford County Public Schools and in the recreation department for Bedford County Parks and Recreational Center before retiring. Even after her retirement she continued the working life by becoming a caretaker for her uncle.

Connie was not only a very loving and caring person but she was also a very humorous and funny person to be around. She loved to dance and spend time with her grandchildren. She was a very strong and determined woman who allowed her faith in God to provide her with the strength to coach her very own children through her fast transition.

She is survived by her companion of 30 plus years, Gerald “Amos” Ellis who remained by her side even during her last days. Amos and Connie were like two peas in a pot rolling around together. They enjoyed taking vacations and taking rides on his motorcycle.

There was nothing Amos wouldn’t do for her and her children. She also leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Perry Gates of Roanoke, VA and Terry Whorley of Goodview, VA; one daughter, Katina Whorley of Roanoke, VA; 11 grand children, Kaleshia Bryant, Cavondre Jones, India Cox, Jalyn Gates, Charciè Jones, Tyller Whorley, Taliyus Whorley, Audriana Cox, Taleah Whorley and Cameron Cox; Four sisters, Carolyn Gates of Suitland, MD, Patricia Wheeler of Clarksville, TN, Sandra (Anthony) Zeigler of Roanoke, VA, and Pamela (Tarain) Thomasson of Roanoke, VA; two brothers, Cecil (Janet) Gates of Roanoke, VA and Larry Gates of Goodview, VA; Three aunts, Trena Gates of Townsend, MD, Rosemary Johnson of Moneta, VA and Ruby Johnson of Moneta, VA; Three uncles, Thomas Gates of Moneta, VA, Calvin (Ruby) Gates of Roanoke, VA and Jessie Thomasson of Goodview, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 2 pm Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Serenity. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
