Obituary for Corinne Lapeyre Barry Corinne Lapeyre Barry of New Orleans and more recently, Mandeville, LA, peacefully and prayerfully passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018, surrounded by her husband of 68 years, and their 5 children. Corinne was a compassionate and gracious woman who always put others first. Her love and self-sacrifice in all that she did is an inspiring example to those around her.
Corinne devoted time selflessly to her family and to her many friends. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and their many accomplishments. Her monthly luncheon group, composed of some Sacred Heart classmates (’47) met regularly since graduation.
She was always ready with a kind word, advice, or direction for every person she met. Corinne was born on October 8, 1930 in New Orleans, LA to Corinne Robin and André Charles Lapeyre. During and after raising her children, and sewing many of their clothes, much of Corinne’s life was dedicated to the Academy of the Sacred Heart, first, as a volunteer and then, in their development and alumnae programs.
In 2001, she was honored with the Cor Unum Award – a national award given by the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, established to pay tribute to alumnae who have embraced the philosophy of the Sacred Heart in their everyday lives. In addition to her love of Sacred Heart, Corinne was devoted to the Catholic Church. She and her husband received the Order of St. Louis Medallion in 2000 for outstanding contributions to the Church.
She taught CCD classes with him at Mary Queen of Peace Church. She was an inspiring and caring woman with inexhaustible energy and a gift for innovative problem-solving. Corinne was preceded in death by her older brother André C. Lapeyre, Jr. and her sister Emilie L. Collins.
She is survived by the love of her life and adored husband, William G. Barry, Sr.; her children Coco B. Watkin (Bill) of Maine, Cathy B. Thompson (Bruce) of Lake Charles, William G.
