CANFIELD –A funeral mass will be 10am, Saturday March 16, in St. Charles Borromeo Church for Curtis S. Cox, 84 of Canfield, who passed away Sunday morning at the Cleveland Clinic. Curt was born February 9, 1935 in Tulsa Oklahoma the son of John David and Vera Tyler Cox. He was a 1954 graduate of Oklahoma’s Pryor High School and was a drummer for the locally famous Starlighters Band.

He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BS in Psychology and later pursued an industrial engineering degree at Arizona State University. It was in Arizona Curt married, started a family and went to work for General Motors. Throughout his career he was given various assignments in California and Detroit which ultimately lead him to the General Motors Lordstown Family.

It was there he met his wife Susan of 33 years and retired as the production manager. Following his retirement, he worked for Avanti Motors, Frigidaire and Cummins Diesel. Curt will be remembered as having a large presence at the plant.

He would rapidly walk the lines, slightly bent at the waist, hunched shoulders, bumming cigarettes. He loved fast cars, fast boats, cats and dogs. There came a point in his life where he couldn’t watch a movie about animals because he would cry.

Curt lived his life his way; the life of the party and could out dance everyone. He was an avid reader. His favorites were that of archeology and science with a great admiration for Albert Einstein.

Those who met Curt could never forget him. He raised four daughters teaching them that they could move mountains as they grew to be strong successful women, and was proud of each one of them. Curt was a magical story teller, with a sly and killer sense of humor.

He put the petal to the metal roaring through life full tilt, until it wasn’t possible. He will be sorely missed by his wife Susan Cox, his daughters: Kimberly (Bill) Holmes, Michelle (John) Helfrich, Dominique (Aaron) Stoeber, Kristen (Andrew Nastoff) Cox, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, his brother-in-law’s: Chris (Sandy) Mele, James (Kathy) LaMarca, David (Diane) Wagner and his beloved cat-Sooner Boomer Cox. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 9am-till the time of the service at the church. The family has requested that material contributions be made to the donor’s favorite charity. Thoughts and condolences can be expressed at www.
