May 6, 2018 Cynthia C. Hager ATHOL- It is with saddened hearts that the Hager/Cummings family announces the passing of Cynthia “Cinny” Crane Cummings Hager, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, on Sunday, April 29th ,2018 at 3:56pm, age 58, 11 months, 29 days. Cynthia passed peacefully at home with family at her bedside after a fighting an aggressive form of cancer for 9 months. Cynthia was born at Athol Memorial Hospital on May 1st, 1959 to the late Burnett and Elizabeth (Gibbs) Cummings.
She grew up in Orange and graduated from Mahar Regional High School in 1977. While in high school Cynthia was involved in many school activities including being in the Marching Band as a twirler and captain, Class Committees, Variety Shows, Christmas and Spring concerts, Student Council, Treasure, Student Government, also president of her class senior year and for many years following involved in class reunions. Following high school Cynthia was enrolled in Worcester State College and graduated with a degree in Psychology.
Cinny met and later married the love of her life, Kent A. Hager on October 17th, 1987 in Petersham, MA. They made their home on Goddard Street in Athol and together raised 3 wonderful children Gregory, Donald and Elizabeth Cinny began her professional career in 1995 as a paraprofessional working one on one with children diagnosed with Autism. She worked with children in Petersham and in the Athol School districts.
Cinny took personal pride in ensuring that all children succeed both in and outside of the classroom. She was able to follow the same class for 10 years whom upon graduation dedicated their 2017 yearbook to “Miss, Cinny” who was also known to always have a sweet treat for her students. (tic tacs) Throughout Cinny’s life she had many passions, including spending time on a dairy farm of her relatives in Lebanon, CT.
She showed Paso Fino horses professionally, loved the 4th of July and anything patriotic, Minstrel and Veterans Park USO shows, camping at Forest Lake in NH, campfire drinking games, snowmobiling in New England, movie nights with family and neighborhood kids, cross words, reading the newspaper daily, lottery tickets and game nights. Most importantly Cinnys passion was being a wife and mother. Cynthia was predeceased by her father, mother and baby brother Robert.
Her in laws Donald W. Hager and wife Jean. She leaves behind her husband Kent of 30 years; her 3 children, Gregory James, Donald Burnett ( fiancé Bethany Armentrout) of Athol and daughter Elizabeth Jean (significant other Tony Lavigne Jr.) of South Royalston. She also leaves behind her siblings, E.Starr Cummings, her daughter Rozlyn ( significant other Steve) of Athol.
Stacey and Robert Cupka of North Andover and their 2 children Jeffrey and Robert. Barney Cummings and Pat of Phillipston. Her Half siblings Chris Cummings in FL and half sister April Purpora in NJ.
Brother in law, Steve Hager and wife Lynn of Gardner, Nephew Brent Hager and wife Kim of Leominster. Sister in law Karen Hager and wife Tammy Kilian of South Royalston And many family members in CT. Cinny will be remembered for her positive and giving spirit, her infectious smile and always up for some beers, butter shots and a good time.
Services will be held Saturday, June 2nd , 2018 at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, with calling hours beginning at 9:30a. m to 11:30a. m, with services 11:30a.m. Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Wheelerville Community Club, 698 East Main Street, Orange, following the burial. Attendees are encouraged to wear Patriotic attire or Code 5 to Cancer t-shirts. In lieu of Flowers, we encourage donations into the Cynthia C. Hager Memorial Scholarship Fund at Athol High School.
