Dana was born on July 2, 1933 in Vernon, Texas to the late Harvey Dillard Maney and Elsie Margaret Gragg Maney. The youngest of seven brothers and seven sisters, Dana graduated from Burkburnett High School where she was named “All School Favorite”. On December 31, 1950 she married Donald Wayne Brookman.
From this union, they had two daughters, Debbie and Kathy. Dana enjoyed being a Navy wife. She loved her role as a homemaker, along with cooking, cleaning and grocery shopping.
She later worked as a substitute teacher, enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and serving as a church camp counselor. Dana worked at Texas Instruments, was an Administrative Aid at Burkburnett High School, was employed at Kruger’s jewelry store and was a cashier at many convenient and grocery stores. She never wanted to be idle and helping others brought her great joy.
In her spare time, Dana enjoyed making ceramics, writing poetry and letters. She loved to color and draw. Dana was a great dancer, singer and played the autoharp.
She and her two daughters spent time together singing for the nursing homes in Burkburnett, Dana on the autoharp, Kathy playing the ukulele and Debbie getting frustrated when Kathy could not keep up. Dana found enjoyment in recording family members reciting poetry and telling funny stories at family reunions. She had a passion for BIG cars, having owned an Oldsmobile 98’ and a Cadillac Fleetwood, both 206 inches in length (which is 17 feet).
Dana had beautiful handwriting, and enjoyed writing her feelings down in her many Bibles. She wrote a book, sent letters to many of our Presidents, gave to many TV ministries and would frequently call for prayer. Even when she lived in the Rest Home she got up every day and applied her makeup and dressed for the day, wearing her favorite jewelry.
Dana loved to dress up for all the holidays. She loved to play dominoes and Bingo, having won many tournaments, and always gave her prizes to others. Dana was 85 years young, with soft fine wrinkles like her mother Elsie.
She loved her children, and most of all, she loved her Lord & Savior. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Donald Wayne Brookman; and her brothers and sisters, Olan Lee Maney, Odis Edward Maney, Elden Harvey Maney, Delver Leroy Maney, Leonard Wayne Maney, Norman Dee Maney, Tex Buford Maney, Loita Elvira Farley, Glenda Bell Taylor, Verna Maytag Maney Rogers, and two sisters who died in infancy.
