David A. Jacobsen, 69, of Cortland, passed on Sunday, May 6, 2018 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, following an extended illness. Born February 18, 1949 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Jacob and Gloria Wickstrom Jacobsen. He was a graduate of Bay Shore High School, SUNY Geneseo and received his master’s degree from Cornell.

David taught Special Education at Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga (TST) BOCES from 1970-1973. After receiving his master’s degree he served as Special Education Administrator at Onondaga-Cortland-Madison (OCM) BOCES from 1975-2004. David was an avid sports fan.

He closely followed Syracuse University basketball and football. His interest in baseball started with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He then coached baseball for several years in the David Harum League in Homer.

He was also a parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church, Homer and had served on the Cortland ARC Board of Directors from 1976-1984. Surviving is his loving wife of 47 years, Kathryn E. Deming Jacobsen, a daughter, Beth Jacobsen of Ontario, NY and his sister, Christine Jacobsen of Jamaica, NY. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, 14 Copeland Ave.

Homer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Alciati. Calling hours will be held at St. Margaret’s Church on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
