David Dirksen, 78, of Iowa Falls, Iowa passed away June 24th, 2018 at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. Funeral services for David will be Monday, July 2nd at 11:00 AM at the Evangelical Free Church in Iowa Falls. Visitation will be Sunday, July 1st from 4-7 PM at the Linn’s Funeral Home Chapel in Iowa Falls and 1 hour before the service at the church.

Military Honors will be provided by Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post #188. Memorials are requested to be sent in honor of David Dirksen Memorial; C/O Beverley Dirksen; Linn’s Funeral Home; 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa 50126; to later be distributed to Mayo Clinics. The Linn’s Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is helping the family with the arrangements.

linnsfuneralhome.com David Cornelius Dirksen was born October 16, 1939 to William Raymond (Ray) Dirksen and Evelyn C. (Buckendahl) Dirksen in Fortuna, California. Dave attended school in Evansdale, Iowa until the 5th grade. He then attended the Frederika School System and graduated in 1958.

From 1959-1963, Dave served in the United States Navy, on the USS Bashaw Submarine. Dave attended University of Northern Iowa and then Iowa State University, where he graduated in 1970. On June 7th, 1964 he was united in marriage to Beverley Ann Mohling in Tripoli, Iowa.

After college, he worked in Ag journalism, then in 1972, started the Yamaha Sports Center in Iowa Falls with his wife, selling and servicing Yamaha and BMW motorcycles and also Yamaha and Arctic Cat snowmobiles. Dave and Bev also owned and managed rental properties and were foster parents for approximately 10 years. In 1986, he opened Dirksen and Associates as an investment planner, retiring in March 2018.

Dave was the founding president of the Cyclone Motorcycle Club while attending Iowa State University. He was a member and past president of the Lion’s Club in Iowa Falls. Dave held various leadership positions at the local Evangelical Free Church involving missions and the planting of a local Hispanic Evangelical Free Church, Nueva Esperanza.

He was a long time Chariman for the Iowa Falls Board of Adjustment. Dave Dirksen is survived by his wife: Beverley of 54 years; two children: Russell Dirksen of Springfield, Missouri, and Maria King of Pierre, South Dakota; four grandchildren: Ryan Dirksen (17), Keri Dirksen (14), Matthew King (14) and Lolita King (14); three sisters: Sandra Okoye of Cedar Falls, Sydney (Mark) Wikner of Cedar Falls, and Kathleen (Roger) Elsberry of Des Moines. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Evelyn Dirksen.
