David “Shorty” Norton, 63, of Candler passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at his home with his wife by his side. Born November 1, 1955 in Asheville, he was the son of Eloise Wike Norton of Arden and the late Ben William Norton. He was an alumnus of Appalachian State University class of 1978 where he received a B.A. in Education.

From that point on he was an avid fan of Appalachian State University athletics as well as U.N.C. Chapel Hill basketball. Surviving is his spouse, Carman Norton of the home; sister, Sandra Lance and her spouse, Alan, of Mills River; nephew, David Lance and his spouse, Kristi, of Spruce Pine; step-child, Amy Ingle of Asheville; step-grandchildren, Ahlyssa and Carter; and Parent-in-laws, Carman and Sandra Payne of Asheville. A visitation will be held from 1-3 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2019 in the chapel of Asheville Area Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services with a graveside service to follow at Wike Cemetery in Cullowhee.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Norton’s honor to the State Employees Credit Union, Ahlyssa Brickey College Fund. Condolences may be made to the family at www. ashevilleareaalternative.com.
