Ruth Keaton Anderson December 23, 1914 – March 02, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Ruth Keaton Anderson, daughter of the late Presiding Elder Dr. H. A Keaton and Reverend Susanna Lackey Keaton, was born December 23, 1914 in Bethania, NC. She came to Asheville in 1930 where she attended and graduated from Allen High School in 1931, and the Allen Teachers Training Class in 1932. She moved to Mount Vernon NY in 1933, and later returned to Asheville in 1943.

Mrs. Anderson was employed by Sears for fourteen years, and retired from Buncombe County after sixteen years. A member of Varick Chapel A.M.E Zion Church since 1944, she served in many positions such as the Gospel Choir and its secretary, Sunday School Teacher and its secretary, the Outreach Ministry, Christian Education, District Annual Conference, and Class Leader– in which she served as Leader of Leaders. She was also a Deaconess, and President of Altar Guild.

Within the Missionary Department she served as secretary, and Chairperson of Evangelism. She was also a member of the Citywide Choir Union and the Citywide Missionary Union for over 20 years. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah J Anderson-Aiken; two sons, Roosevelt Anderson Jr, and Franklin D. Anderson; a grandson Reuben J. Aiken.

Surviving her death is her beloved daughter Ruth Diana Anderson of the home; 4 grandchildren, W. Kevin Anderson of the home, Daisy Ruth (Joye) Payne of Winston-Salem, Briggette Diana (Joseph) Saenz of Charlotte, and Joseph (Jane) Patton of Asheville, 11 loving Great-Grands and 18 bright Great-Great Grands. A nephew, Haywood A. (Patricia) Keaton of High Point NC, and Cousin, Russell Lackey of Statesville, NC; a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, many cousins near and far who always made time to reach out and check on her. Services will be held Saturday, 1p.m. at Varick Chapel AME Zion Church.

Rev. Damita J. Wilder will officiate. Viewing will be an hour prior to services.
