David’s Obituary David Stokes CRAWFORD, CO. - Our loving husband, father, son, brother and good friend David Lee Stokes left this life and into the arms of Jesus February 16, 2019. He was born September 1, 1956 to Ray Stokes and Carol McElprang in Price Utah.

He married Nikie Jensen November 8, 1986 at Price Chapel in Price, UT. They had three daughters Davie Elaine, Allison Joyce, and Alexis Alayne who he loved, supported and was proud of all their accomplishments. David grew up with a love of rodeo, hunting, fishing and farming.

He was an avid trapper and showed off all the pictures to anyone that would look at them. He loved being a winner in the arena – whether it was himself in rodeo or horse racing or his daughters in the show ring. He knew how to pick a winner.

He had a friend everywhere he went and if he didn’t have one he made one quickly. David never met a stranger. David was a coal miner for 44 years.

He started his career in 1975 and had an incredible work ethic. He was very intelligent and could troubleshoot problems and come up with solutions like few others. He started as an hourly employee and went “bossin” in only 5 years.

He worked as the Longwall Maintenance Superintendent and worked his way to Maintenance Manager. He also worked on many special projects in the mine. He received the Spirit of Excellence award from PacifiCorp in 2000.

He worked in the coal industry in Utah, Montana, and Colorado. He and Nikie moved to Colorado in 2012 where he took up many new hobbies including wood working, making pole furniture, and working with metal. He also enjoyed cooking.

His family definitely benefited from these hobbies and they have the fruit of his labor to enjoy every day. David is survived by his wife, Nikie; daughters and son-in-law, Davie, Allie Jo and Wade Hollerman, and Lexie; mother, Carol Pilling; father, Ray Stokes; siblings, Elven Ray, Susan (Gary) Sitterud, Clark (Holly), Carla Anderson, Corrine (Bruce) Wilson; brother-in-law, Wade (Cassie) Jensen, sisters-in-law, Jodi (Carl) Sitterud, Jamie (Phillip) Howa, Tiffni (Daniel) Monahan, Misti (Shawn) Bagley. David was preceded in death by his mother and father- in-law, Lois and Keven Jensen, who he treated as his own parents; brother- in-law, Bill Anderson; and nephew, Jay Dee Wilson.
