November 3, 2018 David T. Elwood ORANGE- David T. Elwood of Orange, MA, died November 1, 2018 at home surrounded by family, after a long illness. He was born in Dalton, MA on September 27, 1942 to Walter and Catherine Elwood. He attended Dalton schools and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School.

He received an AS degree from BCC in Pittsfield, a BA degree from North Adams College and a MA in Education Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. He attended UCLA and the University of Utah as part of a government project to improve rural schools which was his passion. He put what he learned into his first principalship in Strasburg, CO.

Then he became principal of the Derby Vermont Elementary in Derby, VT, followed by becoming the superintendent of schools in the Es-Caledonia school district that included five towns. He is survived by his wife Marilyn of 51 years, sister Elizabeth Kirk (Ernest) and brother Walter (Terry) of Pittsfield, MA, and his sons Luke (Andrea) of Santa Rosa, CA, Noah (Jenna) of Dover, NH, Aaron (Heather) of Norwood, CO and Seth (Myndi) of Orange, MA. He is survived bygrandchildren Reece and Weston of Colorado, Audrey, Emmett, and Mallory of Orange, Tyler McNally of NH, Kristen McNally of SC and Jason Church of CA.

Four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dave had a great sense of humor, He loved entertaining others with stories and jokes. He was the instigator of many adventures with family and friends such as hiking, sledding, cross country skiing, biking, whitewater and long distance canoeing on the Allagash, the Missisquoi and Lake Memphremagog and other rivers.

His life was centered on the interrelationship of Family, Church and School. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Church, 19 Congress St., Orange. Interment will be private in Tully Cemetery, Orange.
