Dawley Hills Mares, age 61 of Whitney, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. Pastor Ryan Pederson will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery on SH# 6 in Clifton. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Pallbearers are Jessie Mares, Jr., Alex Mares, Hector Santos, Tommy Galvan, Felix Moreno and Jose Arriaga.

Dawley was born Feb. 27, 1957 in Killeen, Texas to Keith Milton Hills and Castelle Marguarite Anderson Hills, both preceding her in death. Her interests and career were very diverse.

While attending a Catholic school, she excelled at spelling and won two spelling bees which allowed her to go to Disneyland. Beauty Queen in Laguna Park, Texas. Her career included a nurse assistant, Probation Officer, Notary Public, Ombudsman and after some college working in the investment field.

She enjoyed over twenty years work in various companies including Bear Stearns and Hill Thornton. Her other interests include raising and selling rabbits, chickens, gardening and crafting. She also assisted her husband in construction and did his bookkeeping.

Dawley and Tony where married on Valentines Day of 2010 and made their home in Whitney, Texas. She was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. Her survivors are her husband, Jose Antonio (Tony) Mares; brother, Keith Hills and wife, Jackie; step-daughters, Erica Saldivar, Valarie Edwards, Stephanie Garcia, and Kimberly Mares; father-in-law, Jessie Mares, Sr. and wife, Carol; brothers- in- law, Jessie Mares, Jr. and wife, Shelley, Fernando Mares, Alex Mares and wife, Kristy; sister-in-law, Maria Estela Moreno and husband, Felix; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
