Dean Ball Strickland, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at her home. Dean was born February 14, 1937 in Swain County to the late James Turner Ball and Mary Zelma Barnes Ball. She graduated 2nd highest from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 and began her lifelong career in healthcare.

Dean worked in various fields including hospitals, general duty and supervisory, public health, psychiatric, and nurse consultant for the developmental disabled. Her longest tenure was with the Wake County Health Department. She was a loving wife and proud mother of her son, Todd Morris and a loving grandmother.

She was blessed to witness Todd become an ordained minister in 1984. Dean was a devoted member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU and the Keen-Age Club. She was a former Sunday school teacher and served on numerous committees in the church as well as the NC Prison Fellowship and the Raleigh Baptist Association.

Funeral service 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Road, Knightdale, NC 27545. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Monday, February 4, 2019 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home.

Dean is survived by her loving and devoted husband, O. W. “Bill” Strickland; daughter-in-law, Terry Strickland of Kershaw, SC; step-daughter, Cynthia S. Turner of Raleigh; step-daughter-in-law, Sharyon Strickland of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Frances Ball of Raleigh; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Reverend Todd Morris; step-son, Stephen Strickland; and a host of siblings. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
