Dean Minton Smart, 82, of Piedmont, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cherokee County to William Herbert and Lexie Weddington Minton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Franklin Smart; sons: Steven, Eddie and Phillip Smart; several nieces and nephews.

She was a teacher at Piedmont Schools for 10 years and then became a counsellor there for 15 years. After retiring, she taught at East Side Elementary School for 10 years in Rockmart, GA. She owned Smart Rentals and her favorite past time was spending time with her grandchildren and “chasing renters”.

She was a faithful and devoted member of First Congregational Methodist Church in Piedmont. She is survived by three grandchildren: Nathan (Christie), Dulcinea, and Chadric; and three great grandchildren: Cayden, Devantae and Demerits; brother: Donald Minton; sister: Mary Alice Gresham; and many extended family members. Funeral Services will be Monday, October 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from First Congregational Methodist Church with visitation from 1-2 p.m. at the church.

Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Congregational Methodist Church, PO Box 583, Piedmont, AL 36272. Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Smart Family.
