DELORIS ANN WOODBURN, of Springfield, passed away on her 82nd birthday, December 5, 2018. She was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on December 5, 1936, the daughter of the late William R. and Freda Jane (Byers) Nelson. Deloris graduated from Alderson Broaddus in West Virginia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

She received her Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from Wright State University. She married John H. Woodburn on May 1, 1960 and they raised two children, John and… Read More » Cathy. Deloris worked in the operating room at Community Hospital in 1963 and was approached by the Community Hospital School of Nursing to join them as a nursing professor.

She eventually retired from Clark State after 30 years as a nursing professor. Deloris loved music, singing in the Ohio Lyric Theater Choir, Vintage Voices, and the First Baptist Church Choir for over 50 years. She also loved playing tennis well into her 70’s.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John H. Woodburn; son, John W. (Amy) Woodburn of Mechanicsburg; daughter, Cathy (Bob) Dudley of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Wyat and Cody Woodburn, Robin Strempek, Tina (Donnie) Muller, Susan (Terry) Morris, and Melissa Dudley; and great grandchildren, Madison Strempek and Bliss, Julian and Joseph Morris. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Nelson. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Deloris’ funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Pastor Adam Banks presiding. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 638 S. Fountain Ave.
