Dennis L. Wells “Fat Racer” Hammond Dennis L. Wells, age 62, of Hammond, entered into the gates of heaven on Sunday, October 28, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen (nee Barrett); two daughters: Christine (Gerald) Wells-Ilic and Jillian (Tony) Crayne; two grandchildren: Lennon Mendoza and Austin Crayne; three sisters: Vonda Jenkins, Letha Simon and Ida Bardoczi; two brothers: Ellis (Sandra) Wells and Michael Wells; sisters in-law: Rebecca Stevens and Brenda Owens; brother in-law, Austin Barrett; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends including his best friend and companion Belle. Preceded in death by his parents, Lorn and Mae Wells; brothers in-law: Edward Jenkins and Emery Bardoczi.

Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). A funeral service will be held following the visitation on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Parnell officiating. Private cremation will follow.

Fat Racer was born in East Chicago and has been a lifetime resident of the Hammond area. He was a graduate of Morton Senior High School. He was retired from Ozinga Concrete as a Truck Driver.

Dennis was a member of the Izaak Walton League Griffith, Teamsters local 142, NRA and NHARA and former member of the Optimist Club of Hammond. Fat Racer was an avid hunter, trap and skeet shooter and car enthusiast. One of his favorite places to be was his pole barn where many memories were made.
