Dessie Bell “Granny” Burgess Houlk age 86 a resident of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday January 29, 2019 in a local health care facility. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Elizabeth Green Burgess and was also preceded in death by her husband Charles Adam Houlk Sr. her daughter Sandy Houlk, her son Charles A. Houlk Jr., her sisters Willie Blair and Jewell Hollander, her brother Herbert Andrew Burgess her mother and father in law Charlie and Martha Houlk and several aunts and uncles. Granny, as she was affectionately known was a former employee of Magic Chef and Tennessee Enamel Plant, but her main job was a homemaker for her family.

She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Mallen and her husband Ted, Candy Lawson, her grandsons Chris Carden and his wife Melissa, Corey Carden, Chad Houlk, Alex Lawson, Andrew Lawson and his wife Jennae and Michael Lawson Jr., her great grandson Zaryk Grant, her son in law Michael Lawson Sr., her brothers Arnold Ray Burgess and Verbon Burgess along with several nieces and nephews. A Remembrance of Life Service will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Ave Chapel with Pastor Rob Works officiating. The interment will follow at New Friendship Baptist Church cemetery with Barry Evans, Stacey Smith, Robert Miller, Daryl Colloms, Thomas Wray and Robbie Works serving as casket bearers.
