Obituary for Dolores LaRosa-Ciasullo Dolores LaRosa-Ciasullo, 88, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2018, after a long battle with end-stage renal disease. Dolores (Dee) was born on April 3, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Stephen J. and Louise LaRosa. She was a 1947 graduate of Hallahan Catholic High School and received a Practical Nurse certificate in August, 1954 and employed by local physicians.
After staying home to raise her children for many years, she returned to work, securing a position as a claims specialist for 22 years at the State of PA Bureau of Unemployment Compensation in various South Philadelphia branches. Upon her retirement from the Bureau in 1996, she was happiest at her post-retirement job for an additional 16 years as a greeter and office assistant with the wonderful group at Indepedent Tax and Financial Planners in Holland, PA. Dee also volunteered for the Ward 1, Division 8 election board for several years.
Dolores was a devout and active member of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish, where she served on the Sodality, Parish Council, and as Eucharistic Minister. She delighted in volunteer work for all St. Nicholas fundraisers, her favorite as committee member for St. Nick’s Annual Italian Festival, and became one of the main attractions at the “Varallo Brothers and Dee’s Fried Dough” station. Dee’s greatest joy was to host holiday gatherings to a packed house in her South Philly home, living by her motto that “No one should ever spend a holiday alone”.
Dolores is survived by her two children, Louise Ciasullo Masterson (Edward) of Holland, PA and Joseph T. Ciasullo (Christine) of Sewell, NJ. She is loving “Mom Mom Dee Dee” to her three grandchildren, Michael Masterson (Laura), Joseph J. Ciasullo and Maria Ciasullo; devoted sister to Anthony R. LaRosa (Justyna) and the late Very Rev. Stephen J. LaRosa, OSA.
; adored cousin and extended-family member to so many. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, at the Murphy Ruffenach, Brian W. Donnelly Funeral Home, 2239 S. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148. A second viewing will be held Thursday Sept 6, 2018, Beginning 9:30am at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, 910 Watkins St., Philadelphia, PA 19148.
Funeral Mass 10:30am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, 910 Watkins Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148.
