Dominic Romeo, 99 of Brighton twp. passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 9:30 am in Wexford Healthcare Center. Born on November 7, 1919 in Plati, Reggio Calabria, Italy, he was the son of Caterina and Francesco Romeo.

He married Esther Mae Taglieri on December 25, 1941 in West Aliquippa. He immigrated to the U.S. in April 1936 at the age of 16 and opened his first tailor shop in West Aliquippa that same year. He was also the owner/operator of Romeo Cleaners and Tailors until 1964.

He retired from the JC Penney Company where he was employed as a tailor for more than 25 years. He resided in Brighton Twp. from 1964 until 2017 when he moved to Hopewell Twp.

to live with his son and daughter-in-law, Dominic and Adrienne Romeo. During WWII, Dom served in the U.S. Coast Guard, both at home and at sea aboard the USCG Admiral H.T. Mayo, with service in the Asia-Pacific and European-Africa Theaters. In addition to his parents and devoted wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters; Saverina Aurelio, Plati, Italy and Guiseppa Cusenza, Adelaide, Australia, two brothers-in-law, James Yanuzzi and Anthony Barbuto ,and a beloved daughter-in-law, Thecla C. Romeo He is survived by two sisters, Mary Yanuzzi and Yolanda Barbuto of Aliquippa, and a brother, Paul (Nancy) Romeo of Chesapeake, VA.

, four children; Ronald E. Romeo, Chippewa Twp. , Dominic P. (Adrienne) Romeo, Hopewell Twp. , Catherine M (Ronald) Boyd of Beaver and Deborah E. (Lee) Harshbarger, Virginia Beach.

His eleven grandchildren include: Anita (Dan) Mensch, Ronald (Denise) Romeo, Dominic (Dorothee) Romeo, Michael Romeo, John (Lisa) Romeo, Ronald (Tamara) Boyd, Janine (Rich) Giammanco, Shelley (Mike Berardi) Boyd, Amy (Sean) Anderson, Sean (Abby) Harshbarger, and Amanda (Tom Stiteler) Harshbarger and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the U.S., Canada and Australia. Dominic was an avid bowler, once winning the Senior US Championship in Kansas City.

He loved baseball, especially the Pirates, and he took great joy and cherished the love of his 19 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to Mother Teresa Hospice and the staff of Wexford Healthcare Center for the excellent care provided to Dominic. darrochfuneralhome.com where prayers will be offered on Friday at 9:45am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Beaver. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at the cemetery on Friday at 12 noon to conduct full military honors.
