Joseph Donald “Don” Savage, Jr., 66, of Onancock, VA, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away at his residence on Thursday, July 5, 2018. Born June 12, 1952 in Nassawadox, VA, Don was a son of the late Joseph Donald Savage and Joanne Gardner Savage. He received both Bachelor of the Arts and Master of Education degrees from the University of Virginia, and was a longtime special education teacher.

Don was very proud of his membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society; enjoyed watching cooking shows and owls; and was an avid (very, very avid! ) collector of books, coins and stamps. Survivors include his brother, Richard G. Savage of Onley, VA; his niece and caregiver, who helped Don with many of his life needs in recent times, Christina Mae Savage of Melfa, VA; great-nieces and nephews, Sarah Mae Taylor, Matthew Taylor III, Richard Riley Evans, and Kaitlyn Savage; and longtime friend, Jerry Gregory of Rehoboth, DE.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a nephew, PVT Richard “Rick” Dion Savage. A memorial service will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Alan Layman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Riverside Shore Hospice, P.O. Box 616, Onley, VA 23418, or if desired to assist with final expenses memorial donations may be made to Williams Parksley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Parksley, VA.
