Donald’s Obituary Cobleskill (Schoharie County): Donald A. “Donny” Thorington 23, formerly of Cobleskill was taken from us all too soon on Sunday May 5th in Portsmouth, VA. Donny was born March 22, 1996 in Flint, Michigan, a son of Kurt A. and Michelle (VanKeuren) Thorington. He graduated from the Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, class of 2014 and later, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, January, 2015.

He had been stationed in Ballston Spa and was currently serving aboard the USS George Washington while dry-docked in Norfolk, VA. He was a Machinist Mate Nuclear, 3rd class and was very proud to serve his country. In his spare time, Donny enjoyed lifting weights, physical fitness, and fishing.

While in high school, he played on the football team along with track and field where he excelled in shot-put. Survivors include his father, Kurt Thorington of Cobleskill, his mother, Michelle VanKeuren of Colorado Springs, CO, his brothers, Nick VanKeuren of CO and Emmett Bumpus of MA along with his aunt, Susan Thorington of Richmondville. A period of visitation will be held from 10AM to 12Noon on Friday, May 17th at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel Street Cobleskill followed by a graveside service at 12:30 in the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery will full active duty military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092.
