OBITUARY Donald A Williams Sr. September 13, 1922 – October 30, 2018 Donald A. Williams, Sr., 96 of Merritt Island, FL passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Mr. Williams was born in Newark, Ohio. His family moved to Homestead, PA where he graduated from high school.

He attended the Univ. of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania State College. Mr. Williams entered the Army Air Corps in Aug 1943 and was discharged in Mar 1946.

His service included a tour of duty at Tuskegee Army Airfield in 1944 and from there to the Philippines. Mr. Williams is a retired federal employee. He began his career prior to induction into the military service by working for the War Dept.

In his thirty five years of service, Mr. Williams worked for seven different agencies. When he retired, he held the position of Civil Rights Officer in charge of Equal Employment Opportunity Programs for the Eastern Region of the Federal Aviation Administration. Mr. Williams served as a gubernatorial appointee on the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, President of the Hosts of Brevard, President of a Timeshare Assoc in Daytona Beach, Program Coordinator for the Youth Leadership Training Program sponsored by the “Chappie” James Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc. and a member of the Savannahs Golf Course Advisory Board.

Mr. Williams is the recipient of many awards i.e., the Secretary of Transportation Award for outstanding meritorious service and many other FAA Regional Awards for the success of Equal Employment Opportunity Programs involving hiring, training, retention and promotion of employees. Mr. Williams most coveted award is the one signifying RETIREMENT. Mr. Williams and his wife, Ruth, lived in Merritt Island.

Ruth passed away in January 2018. He is survived by his sons: Donald A. Williams, Jr. (daughter-in-law, Julia Roberson Williams) of Cocoa Beach and Jeffrey T. Williams of Melbourne. A Memorial Service honoring Mr. Williams will be held at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 1PM.

Friends and family are invited to visit from 12PM-1PM prior to service.
