Don Eckman, 94, of Lake Odessa, Michigan passed away on May 12, 2019 at Green Acres Assisted Living in Ionia, Michigan. Don was born on April 25, 1925 to Corneilus and Bernice (Schneider) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He married Adie (Adilene) Haddix on April 15, 1946.

Don and Adie were married for 71 years. Don proudly served his country in World War II. He served in France and was wounded twice.

He was awarded many medals for his service including the French Legion of Honor Medal. Don was also an Honorary Member of the Sgt. Audie Murphy Club, Fort Hood, Texas.

Don was a member of the VFW Post 4461 in Lake Odessa, MI. Don will be lovingly remembered by: children; Bonnie (Larry) Balli, Debbie (Gary) Smith, Jim (Cathy) Eckman, grandchildren; Bob (Kris) Baker, Joshua (Melissa) Balli, Amy (Brandon) Pepper, Jessica (Patrick) Balli, Darcy (Greg) Howard, Holly (John) Roelofs, Heather (John) Smoes and Jay (Christina) Smith, several great grandchildren, in-laws; Richard Haddix, Don (Patsy) Lenz, Keith (Judy) Warner, Mel McCloud, Lorna Sherman and Janet Thomas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Adie, son Jack, sister Jean Sullivan, parents Corneilus and Bernice Eckman, his loving grandmother Dona Schneider, several aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff Green Acres of Ionia, for the loving care that they provided Don. Visitation will be held at Koops Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 3pm until 5pm and 7pm until 9pm. Funeral services will be held at 11am at the Lakewood United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 16, 2019.

Burial with full military honors will take place in Woodland Memorial Park immediately following the funeral. Memorials are suggested to the VFW Post 4461, 3600 W Tupper Lake Rd, Lake Odessa, MI 48849. Online condolences can be left at www.
