Donald E. ‘Pappy’ Pond, age 86, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born July 12, 1932 in Billett, Illinois, the son of George and Thelma (Rhinehart) Pond. He married Ruthie Avenelle Fidler on December 7, 2007 and she survives.

Pappy worked for Maeco Construction and Chuck Billingsly Construction. He also worked in the oil fields. He was an Army veteran, serving his country in the Korean War.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion, where he served on funeral detail. He enjoyed fishing. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Timmy Pond; an infant daughter, Donna Pond; and two brothers, George Pond and Arthur Pond.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie; one son, Lloyd Edward Pond of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one daughter, Victoria Pond of Michigan; and numerous grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, March 11, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
