Obituary for Donald G. Rose Donald G. Rose died at home and was called from this temporary residence on earth to his eternal heavenly abode on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Donald was born on December 28, 1938 at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio to the late Judge Clayton W. and Phyllis (Palmer) Rose.

His siblings include Judge Clayton Rose Jr., Barbara Rose Headlee, and Carol Rose Scott, who reside in Dublin, Ohio. Don attended Dublin Public Schools for all 12 years, graduating from Dublin High School in 1956 along with 34 other classmates. His higher education was at The Ohio State University in Electrical Engineering and he graduated with a Math Degree in 1960.

Additionally, he participated in many fraternity activities and enjoyed his college days. Donald proudly served 2 years in the United States Army being discharged in1962. Following his military experience, he attended The Ohio State University Law School, passing the Bar Examine in 1966.

He worked at the law firm of Chester, Hoffman, Park, Willcox and Rose, which in 1978 became known as Chester, Saxbe, Hoffman & Willcox. In 1981 he left that firm and joined Erick Alden at his practice in Columbus. He served 3 years on the Regional Planning Commission, Attorney (Solicitor) for Dublin, Ohio from 1967-1974, and was appointed to the Underground Parking Commission by Governor Rhodes serving 16 years with 2 terms as Chairman.

From a previous marriage, his son, Donald G. (Chip) Rose Jr. was born in 1965. He enjoyed his years of parenting with Chip, especially the time spent coaching Little League Baseball. Don married his soul mate, Robin in 1980 and they began life together along with Robin’s daughter, Shelly, who was 12 at the time.

Don and Robin enjoyed early retirement adventures, while they were young and healthy, living aboard the sailboat Robin Lee. After selling the sailboat, they chose to travel by public transportation for 11 months in Mexico, Central and South America. The third phase of low budget travels was buying “around-the-world” plane tickets.

Again, they spent 6 ½ months using various forms of public transportation visiting 15 countries and returning to Dublin in1992. Don quickly assumed the role as a Lawyer practicing out of his home office and Robin returned to work as a registered nurse. Don’s interests included hunting, sailing, fishing, photography, golf, soaring, music, skiing, Indy car racing, cooking, bridge, OSU football, camping, RV travels.

In 2001 he was a member of the Dublin Irish Rockets Malibu Grand Prix team. He also enjoyed flower gardening with a special interest of African Violets. For approximately 20 years he was a member of the Indian Lake Yacht Club.

Often, he would prepare the meals for opening and closing day at the club. He attended church in Dublin and Russells Point, Ohio. Don and Robin loved being grandparents; they provided daycare for their grandson, Mitchell three days per week from 2003-2010.

Don and Robin continued their traveling experiences. All together having visited 92 countries spanning 6 continents. He also pursed the pleasure of authoring books chronicling family, travels, cooking and historical facts.

His published books include: Living Aboard the Sailboat Robin Lee Judge Clayton Rose, Sr. (The Boy From the Great Black Swamp) A Night of Horror (A Comprehensive Account of the 1930 Ohio Penitentiary Fire) The Ebey’s of Dublin, Ohio Don and Robin’s Favorite Recipes and the final book will be published in December 2018. The subject is about their memoirs of Mexico, Central and South America. Don is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Robin Lee Rose of Dublin, son; Donald G. (Chip) Rose Jr. of Austintown, Ohio, stepdaughter; Shelly (Rick) Olson, and grandson Mitchell Olson of Delaware, Ohio, siblings; Clayton Rose and family, Barbara Rose Headlee and family Carol Rose Scott and family, sister-in-law Randy (Kevin) McClure and family of Columbus, nieces, nephews, cousins, special friend Billis Pierce and family of Gahanna and numerous lifelong friends from all aspects of his life.
