Obituary for DONALD J. COHEN Donald J. Cohen, 87, of Overland Park, died June 4, 2018. Funeral services and burial will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at B’nai Yaakov Cemetery, 5740 Rochester Road (US 169 Hwy), St. Joseph, MO. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, 12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145.

Donald was born on October 5, 1930 to the late Irving and Rosalie Cohen, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He attended the University of Oklahoma and is a brother of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951 where he served as airman first class for four years.

He married Sharon L. Cohen in 1956. He primarily was a Kansas City area resident. Donald was an active member of both Ohev Sholom and Beth Shalom synagogues, where he served as Gabbai, religious school teacher and a member of the Men’s Club.

Donald also served as a Cub Scout Cubmaster and a member of ROMEOs. He was a devoted husband and father, avid reader and enjoyed dancing. He is survived by Sharon L. Cohen, his wife of 62 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Debbi Cohen of Leawood, Kansas and daughter, Lori Cohen Trojan of Lawrence, Kansas; brother and sister, Richard Coe of Hollywood, Florida and Shirley Golan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren: David (Carolyn) Cohen, Elizabeth Cohen (Steven) Levy, Andrea Potter (Lucas) Carpenter and Samuel Potter; great grandchildren: Grant Samuel Levy and Kellen Reece Carpenter.
