DONALD FALER Donald R. Faler, 92, of Quincy, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Monday (February 11, 2019) at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy. Born February 6, 1927 in Camp Point, Illinois, Don was the son of Bert and Edith Swisher Faler. He married Carlene Schildt on January 20, 1945 in Palmyra, Missiouri.

She preceded him in death on March 25, 1953. He married Ruth Fry Thomas on October 4, 1953 in Bowling Green, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2011.

For the past 7 years, Don has shared his life with Rosalie Walker. Mr. Faler served his country in the United States Navy during W.W. II. Don was an active member of Union United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golfing, camping and traveling, spending many winters in Florida. Don called square dancing for 27 years and loved helping others by volunteering at Blessing Hospital for many years. Don began his career with Cylindro Gas Company where he worked for 20 years until he became a co owner of an electrical business for 8 years.

In 1966, Don joined JM Huber Corporation where he worked in Electrical / Maintenance until his retirement in 1988. In addition to Rosalie, Don is survived by four children, Sharon Bittle (Dean) of Harrisburg, IL, Jerry Thomas (Trish) of Longwood, FL, David Faler (Linda) of Quincy and Dianne Sajban (Ron) of Meza, AZ; seven grandchildren, Leigh Thomas of Sanford, FL, Jeff Thomas of Buckeye, AZ, Amy Brombaugh (Matt) of Harrisburg, IL, Mark Bittle (Sharon) of Barrington, IL, Todd Bittle (Beth) of Harrisburg, IL, Angela Gates (Eric) of Keokuk, IA and Brian Sajban of Phoenix, AZ; ten great grandchildren, Olivia Gates, Lauren Gates, Sophie Brombaugh, Ben Brombaugh, Miles Brombaugh, Chris Bittle, Alex Bittle, Patrick Bittle, Sarah Bittle and Andrew Bittle; and his extended family with Rosalie, her daughters, Carolyn Tapia (Richard) of Monticello, IA, Yvonne Bennett (Pam) and Joan Miller (Greg) both of Quincy and their families. Mr. Faler was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a brother Milbert Faler; and a sister, Laura Wood Scheiter; and a daughter of Rosalie, Joyce Leary.

The family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Home and Blessing Hospice for the loving and compassionate care given to Don. Cremation arrangements are in the care of the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 in the Union United Methodist Church with Pastor Carol Stufflebeam officiating.

Military Honors by the U. S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail will follow the memorial service at the church. Visitation will be Friday morning from 10:00 until the time of the memorial service at Union United Methodist Church. Private Inurnment will be held in Hersman Cemetery, Hersman, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church, Chaddock or Fishing for Freedom.
