Donald Ray Knabenshue, 48 years old, passed away at 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2018 at his home in South Bend. Don was born on March 25, 1970 to Kenneth A. Knabenshue and the late Nancy J. (Shamo) Knabenshue. Don is survived by his sisters, Ann K (LaMont) Freeze of South Bend, Jean C (Chris) Gramza of Mishawaka and his brother Paul K. (Alycia) Knabenshue of Orono, MN.

Don had many special nieces and nephews, Joshua Freeze, Andrea (John) Kuhn, Gabrielle Gramza, AJ Knabenshue, Luke Gramza and Evelyn Knabenshue. Don’s dogs, Otis and Ike, will also miss him dearly. Don proudly served on the South Bend Police Department and was a lifelong resident of the South Bend area.

Don had a large circle of family and friends, and is best remembered for having a big heart and his willingness to help anyone. Don loved working with dogs as a former member of the K-9 unit and bomb squad. He opened his home to his police dogs.

A Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 12th 2019 from 2:00-4:00 PM the Palmer Funeral Home, Guisinger-Chapel 3718 So. Michigan St. South Bend, IN. Visitation will conclude with “Words of comfort” and a brief FOP Ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Donald R. Knabenshue may be donated to Pet Refuge, Inc, 4626 S. Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www. palmerfuneralhomes.com.
