Shavlik, age 88, lifelong Two Rivers resident, died peacefully Monday morning, December 24, 2018 St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc. Donald was born in Two Rivers on January 21, 1930 to Wenzel and Anastasia (Polifka) Shavlik. He attended St. Luke’s Catholic Grade School and Washington High School, graduating with the class of 1948.
Don then served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from military service in 1953. On May 7, 1955, he married Margaret A. “Marge” Wondrash at All Saints Catholic Church in Denmark.
The Rev. Chester Dionne presided at the ceremony. Marge preceded him in death on December 3, 2015.
Donald was employed with Mirro Aluminum Company for 43 1/2 years until retiring in 1991. Don enjoyed cooking, gardening, and artwork. He was a member of the Two Rivers Senior Center, and former member of St. Joe’s Club in Two Rivers.
Survivors include his three sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Laurie Shavlik, Gary and Lori Shavlik, all of Two Rivers, Guy and Verna Shavlik of Wauwatosa; three grandchildren: Travis Shavlik (special friend, Shannon Godfrey, and her daughter, Brynlee), Nicole (Mike) DeRoehn, and Isabelle Shavlik; two great grandchildren: Madalynn and Audrey. He is further survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Mary Ann (Dale) Valentine of Luxemburg, Lou Ann (Steve) Moseler of Two Rivers, Bob (Jane) Wondrash of MissionViejo, CA, Mary Wondrash, Two Rivers, and Jackie Wondrash, El Cajon, CA; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wenzel and Anastasia Shavlik; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Raymond and Marie Wondrash; brother & sister-in-law, Ray (Betty) Shavlik; sister, Dorothy Sell; and other in-laws: Chuck Wondrash, Corky Wondrash, and Lois (Jerry) LeClair.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th Street, Two Rivers. Deacon Paul Gleichner will officiate at the memorial service, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Military graveside honors will be held at the funeral home immediately following the service by members of American Legion Post #165 and VFW Post #1248 of Two Rivers.
