Doris Colvin Heinlein, beloved wife of the late Edward C. Heinlein Sr., passed away with her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Doris and George Colvin of Coraopolis. She is survived by her children: Doris Kay Persing (Edwin) of Moon Township, PA and Edward C. Heinlein Jr. of Boyertown, PA.

Doris had three grandchildren: Courtney Heinlein Young (Matt) of Gilbertsville, PA; Melissa Persing Hughes (Mark) of Bethel Park; and Jason Persing (Kristin) of Moon Township, PA. Doris was blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Anthony, Madelyn, and Justin Hughes; Luke and Camryn Young; and Brayden and Nolan Persing. Doris was one of four sisters: (deceased) Peggy Gamble (Walt); (deceased) Eleanor MacCrum (Jack); and survived by Sally Kirkpatrick (Pete).

Doris is survived by many nieces and nephews. Doris graduated from Coraopolis High School, class of 1945 and was Salutatorian of her class. She attended Grove City College.

Doris was active in all of her children’s activities: serving as Brownies Leader, as Scout Leader, and as Den Mother; President of the Pleasant View Mother’s Club; and vice president of the Moon Junior and Senior High School PTA. She was a reporter for the “Coraopolis Record” for eight years. Doris and her husband Ed owned and operated the ” Village Shoppe,” a women’s clothing store, for 28 years and for ten of those years, had a branch store in Moon Township.

Doris was awarded a plaque for “Small Business Woman of the Year” in 1980 by the West Hills Jaycees, and her husband Edward was also honored as a contractor. ” Doris served as a charter member of the Valley Ambulance Authority and was vice president for 20 years. She also served as director of the Coraopolis Chamber of Commerce for 18 years.

Doris retired from business and entered the world of politics. She was elected to the Moon Area School Board and served eight years from 1987 to 1995. Then she was elected to the Moon Township Board of Supervisors and served seven years from 1996 to 2002.

For two of those years she served as chairman. Doris and her husband were members of Montour Heights Country Club for 50 years and life members of Coraopolis Presbyterian Church. Doris was a perfect example of a hard-working, loving , caring, dedicated, and honest member of her community.

She was loved and appreciated by her family. Doris will be remembered and missed by all of her family and by many friends. Visitation Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd.

Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM and Thursday 11 AM to 1 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 1 PM in the funeral home. Interment Coraopolis Cemetery.
