In Memory of Doris E. Pells Doris E. Pells passed away peacefully in the loving embrace of her family on February 20, 2019. She was 96 years old. Doris Aten was born in Adair, Ill.

, on May 30, 1922 to Gale and Beulah (Coyner) Aten. She graduated from Moline High School in 1940 and later attended Augustana College. She married Harry M. Pells on Aug.

11, 1946 and together, they built a full life of 54 years alongside their three children, Harry G. Pells, Susan Walsh, and Jeffrey Pells. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Doris devoted her life to family while working with her husband in the insurance business for 36 years. Her devotion to family was matched only by her dedication to the community.

Doris volunteered in numerous capacities and received many honors for her service over the years: President and Life Member of PTA, Secretary of Rock Island High School Booster Club, Cub Scouts den mother, Hardees Golf Classic and John Deere Classic marshal (where she received The Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2004) , Secretary of Ladies Auxiliary Camp 26 Modern Woodmen of America (where she was awarded the Hometown Hero Award), member of Rock Island Clean and Beautiful committee and the Senior Advisory committee for Quad City Bank & Trust. After her husband’s death, Doris spent the latter decades of her robust life seeking out new experiences and finding joy at every turn. At the age of 80, Doris began working at McDonald’s in her second home of Naples, Fla.

, where she became McDonald’s oldest employee, beloved by all who worked or visited there. Never one to sit on the sidelines, Doris traveled to Costa Rica with her son and granddaughter at the age of 82 to zipline through the forest canopy. Doris will be tenderly remembered as a joyful, loving, independent, free spirit who never met anyone who stayed a stranger for long.

May she rest evermore in peace. Doris is survived by her three children, Harry G. (Vicki) Pells, Susan (Pat) Walsh, and Jeffrey Pells; four grandchildren, Andy, Britta, Danielle, and Amber; and three great-grandchildren, Sigge, Livia, and Asher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Pells in 2001; her sister, Betty Beezley; and brothers, Leo, Carl and Donald Aten.

The family of Doris Pells will be holding a visitation at Wheelan-Pressley Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave, Rock Island on Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Rock Island at 11:00 a.m. on Monday preceded by visitation at 10:30. The service will be followed by interment at the National Cemetery Rock Island Arsenal. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to First Baptist Church of Rock Island.
