Doris Eileen (Finley) Allen passed away on Wednesday, September 5th , 2018 at 9:12pm while resting peacefully at the Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio. She was born in New Concord, Ohio on February 26, 1924. Doris was the daughter of Ray and Hallie (Gibson) Finley.

Doris loved James R. Allen, family, reading, genealogy, hummingbirds, gardening, food preservation, as well as hosting family and friends at “Allen Tall Trees Farm” where she would serve one of her famous, handmade, home baked and delicious pies. Doris graduated New Concord High School Class of 1942. She married High School Sweetheart James R. Allen August 29, 1945.

Doris also Graduated from Muskingum College and was a member of the Kianu Club of Muskingum University. Doris enjoyed a long career with Newark City Schools teaching High School Home Economics. Doris was a member of Anna Asbury Stone Daughters of American Revolution, Daughter of Union Veterans, First Families of Ohio, First Families of Guernsey, Muskingum and Belmont counties of Ohio and the Norwich Order of Eastern Star.

Doris and James Allen were also members First United Methodist Church of Newark, Ohio. Doris is survived by Pamela (Bercaw) Allen, Daughter in Law, as well as Grand and Great Grand Children Natalee (Allen) Rick and son Caleb Johnson. Sarah (Allen) Derek, daughter Sophia and son Ian Hageman.

Rory, Lucinka, son Keegan and daughter Allison Gerber. Ryan, Jennifer, son Harland and Daughter Hadleigh Gerber, her siblings, Bernice (Wendell) Finley Litt, and Allen (Susan) Finley. As well as numerous Cousins and close friends.

Doris is preceded by her Husband, James R. Allen, Daughter, Katherine Ann (Gerber) Allen, and Son, James Phillip Allen, as well as her sibling, Jean (Jerry) Finley Green. Friends and family are welcome to attend Calling Hours at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord on September 15th, 2018 from 10:30am to 12:00 Noon. Services will follow at Noon with Pastor Dale Parrish officiating services.

Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers please make a donation in Doris’s name to Alzheimer’s Association or alz.org .
