OBITUARY Doris Marie Begin July 2, 1926 – October 21, 2018 Doris (Manat) Begin, 92, of South Yarmouth, formerly of New Bedford, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018 in Cape Cod Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph Louis Begin and the daughter of the late Donat and Orelia (Boucher) Manat. Born and raised in Acushnet, she moved to New Bedford at the age of 17, where she lived for most of her life.

She was a former communicant of St. Joseph – St. Therese Church. Doris worked at Aerovox for more than 20 years and retired from Cape Cod Sportswear in New Bedford. She was a former member of the Royal Traveler’s and the St. Josephs – St. Therese Senior’s Club, where she volunteered as Club Secretary.

She was an avid reader, and loved playing games on her Kindle. She also enjoyed visits to Cape Cod beaches with her daughter Debra, the slots at Foxwoods, word search books, playing Scrabble (and always winning! ), bird-watching, watching the Red Sox, and playing BINGO.

One of her favorite activities in years past, and a very fond memory for her children, was fishing on Lake St. in Acushnet. Other wonderful memories were made at many family gatherings. Her delicious French galettes and cathedral windows were her favorite contributions, and her job at Thanksgiving was always taking apart the turkey.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Bruce and her husband Thomas of Rochester, and Debra Begin of South Yarmouth, and her granddaughter Kelly Ann Bruce of Rochester, who was “the light of her life”. Also sister-in-law Jane Begin and her spouse Joyce Bettencourt of Farmington, CT. , who were both more like sisters to her; sister-in-law Lucille Begin of Laguna Beach, CA; two nephews, Paul Savaria and his wife Claire of New Boston, NH, and Jean Savaria and his wife Sheryl of New Bedford; several other nieces, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

She was predeceased by her sister, Cecile Savaria. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10:00AM in St. Joseph – St. Therese Church, Acushnet Ave. , New Bedford, followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery, Main St., Fairhaven.
