OBITUARY Hilda F. Gaboriault June 12, 1932 – October 4, 2018 Hilda F. (Ferreira) Gaboriault, age 86, passed away at home on Thursday Oct. 4 2018, with her family by her side. Formerly of New Bedford, she resided in Bridgewater.
She was the wife of the late Eugene J. Gaboriault. They were married in a double wedding ceremony, with her sister Eva and Gene’s best friend, Roland Antil in 1953 on Thanksgiving Day. They shared 46 years of marriage and had four children.
They even returned to night school together to complete their GED in 1980. Hilda was employed by the New Bedford Public Schools for 31 years, working in the cafeteria as a “lunch lady”. She retired in 2009 at the age of 78, from Campbell School.
She prided herself on keeping a meticulous home, loved flowers, working in her yard, never left the house without lipstick and earrings and was known to speak her mind. She is survived by her three children, Deb of Bridgewater, David of E. Boston and Wayne and his wife Linda of Rockland, MA; granddaughters Sarah and Emily Gaboriault of Rockland, MA; her sister Eva Antil of E. Hartford, CT; 3 brothers Luiz Ferreira of New Bedford and Arthur Ferreira of Westport and Frances Ferreira and his wife Lil of Rochester, MA; 2 sisters in law Jackie Ferreira of New Bedford and Nancy Ferreira of Wilburham, MA; her best friend of over 60 years Norma Hardy and 20 nieces and nephews. Hilda was predeceased by her son Paul G. Gaboriault, her sister Lucie Ferreira and her brothers Manny Ferreira and Ernest Ferreira.
She was the daughter of the late Manuel and Adelaide (Souza) Ferreira. The Gaboriault family would like to thank Father Mike Racine, for bringing comfort and prayer to Hilda in her time of need. We would also like to thank the incredible Hospice team who showed love and compassion and gave the most excellent care.
Thank you Tanya Cardoza, Jessica Abelha, Susan Bliss, Donna Leonard and Erica Perez. Her funeral will be Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd. , New Bedford followed by her Funeral Mass at 11AM in St. Bernard’s Church 34 S. Main St., Assonet.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 5 to 8PM. The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 309 Waverly Oak Rd. Waltham, MA.
