OBITUARY Willis Borden Tripp May 12, 1924 – October 20, 2018 Willis B. Tripp, age 94, of New Bedford, formerly of Dartmouth, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. He was the husband of the late Doris L. Tripp. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Willis C. and Mary Tripp.

After the early death of his mother, he was legally adopted by his grandparents. Willis graduated from New Bedford High School, Kinyon-Campbell Business School and Boston University with a degree in Business Administration. He worked as a corporate controller.

Willis is survived by two daughters, Deborah L. Tripp and her spouse Joan M. Thompson of North Dartmouth and Laurie A. Grandmont and her husband Jeffrey J. Grandmont Jr. of Buzzards Bay; three grandchildren Megan Grandmont-Melendy and her husband Paul Melendy of Salem, William Grandmont of Somersville and Evan Grandmont of Dorchester. Willis served in the Army Air Offensive 22nd Fighter Squad as a Staff Sargent during WWII. He was an Expert Carbine Marksman and received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, and Distinguished Unit Badge with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.

He was awarded a lifelong membership to the American Legion, Post 166, Fairhaven for his dedication and services at that post. Willis was also involved in the Junior Achievement and Fresh Air Children Program. Willis enjoyed playing golf, spending time at Horseneck Beach and family gatherings.

He was an avid fan of the Patriots and Red Sox. Willis supported his daughter’s interests and stressed the importance of a college education. He also gave much care and attention to their animals while they attended college.

Willis loved his grandchildren and they frequently visited Buttonwood Park after school when they were young and stopped for a sweet treat when they were older. Special thanks to all the staff at NBJCH for the heartfelt care they provided. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 12:30PM in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be Friday from 10:30 to 12:30PM prior to his services.
