Obituary for Dorothy A. “D.A.” Moore (Byers) Dorothy A. “D.A.” (Byers) Moore, 94, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2018 with her loving family by her side. She was born to Russell and Opal (Hodgin) Byers on December 31, 1923 in Indianapolis. She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1941.

Dorothy is survived by a loving son, Chip Pierson of Indianapolis; two loving stepsons, Rick (Duane) Moore of Danville and Ron (Jo) Moore of AK; a loving stepdaughter, Debbie (Ed) Sakson of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Hoyt Moore Jr.; and a brother, Robert Byers. (story for this paragraph to come shortly) Dorothy was a member of West Newton Friends Meeting, Mooresville Order of Eastern Star, Decatur Township Lions Club, and Silver Eagles and Swan.

She was a volunteer for the Goodwin Center in Decatur Township for several years. She received the Sagamore of the Wabash Honor and named volunteer of the Year by the Indianapolis Mayor, Greg Ballard. Family and friends may show their love and support from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, November 30th and 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, December 1st at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville.

A nephew, Brent Bill, will officiate Dorothy’s celebration of life service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 1st at Jones Family Mortuary. Dorothy will be laid to rest in West Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Dorothy’s memory to West Newton Friends Meeting, 6800 S. Mooresville Rd.
