Dorothy Dot Devee Runkle , November 15, 1927 — November 03, 2018

Dorothy “Dot” Devee Runkle, 90, of Meadville passed away peacefully on November 3, 2018 at UPMC Hamot in Erie, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on November 15, 1927 in Fairview Township, Mercer County to John L. and Sara Reinhart Runkle and was the middle of five children Dorothy attended Godfrey School – a one room school house through the eighth grade. She graduated from Fredonia-Delaware High School in 1945, where she participated as a flag girl in the school band.

… Read More » Following high school, she completed the Stenographic Course at Franklin Commercial College in July 1947. Following her training, she began her career as a secretary at GTI in Saegertown and later became employed by the former Talon Zipper, Sunbeam Corporation, and finally, SECO/WARWICK in Meadville. After retiring, Dot volunteered with the Crawford County READ Program as an adult tutor.

In addition to working, which she loved, Dot had a sincere passion for children, crossword puzzles, reading the newspaper, traveling, learning, and she was actively involved in the Pleasantview Alliance Church, including their 55+ Fellowship and Operation Christmas Child: Shoebox Ministry. Her church and family were very important to her. Dot is survived by a brother, Richard (Dick) of Fredonia, 4 nieces, 6 nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Aileen, Virginia, and Jean. Dot will be remembered as an independent, strong-willed, healthy, loving woman by the various people she knew and interacted with, from North Cottage Street and beyond. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 12-2 at Pleasantview Alliance Church, 16233 State Hwy.

86, Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM with Pastor Harold Walton officiating. Dot will be laid to rest in Delaware Cemetery, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasantview Alliance Church Mission Fund, 16233 State Route 86, Saegertown, PA 16433.
