Dorothy’s Obituary Dorothy Friar Kunkel, 84, of Cypress Street, Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019, in Hertford Manor. Mrs. Kunkel was born in Middlesboro, KY on March 20, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Edgar Lee and Irene Collingsworth Friar. A retired payroll supervisor from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, she was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church where she had served on various committees through the years, and had formerly enjoyed fellowship in Brentlock Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz Julius Kunkel; two sisters, Peggy Higgins and Lela Cardwell; and by a brother, Merle Friar. Surviving are her two sons, James D. Moose and wife, Jeanean, of Portsmouth, VA, and Fritz J. Kunkel, Jr.; a daughter, Sandra I. Moseng and husband, Leonard, all of Hertford; a brother, Mitchell Friar of Belvidere; eight grandchildren, James III, Thomas, Sarah, Joni-Tyler, Fritz III, Ritchie, Cassondra, and Mariena; and three great-grandchildren, Izaiah, Hudson, and Madison. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Bethel Baptist Church, and will be conducted by Pastor Greg Owenby.

Friends may join the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. A private burial will be in the church cemetery. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements, and online condolences may be made by visiting www.
