Dorothy J. Carter, nee Huybrecht, age 90, long time resident of Wild Rose, passed away peacefully at Waupaca Elder Care in the early hours of Wednesday, February 13th. She was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on December 13, 1928 where she will forever be known as Babe. Dorothy had been a vital, active woman.
Sadly, we began losing her bit by bit over a period of years due to the ravages of dementia. She was a lifelong avid reader, loved music and had many hobbies including sewing, crafting and gardening. Let us not forget her extraordinary baking talents – no one will ever forget the bread, the caramel and cinnamon rolls and the cakes and pies we all loved.
She enjoyed her years in the kitchen at Wild Rose School. There were many teachers and students who missed Mrs. Carter’s treats when she retired. She and Perry had many years of spending time at their trailer and boat at Saxon Harbor, taking Mom back to her roots on Lake Superior.
She was an exceptionally wonderful and loving Grandma and treasured her grandchildren. She enjoyed a special close relationship with granddaughters Andy, Sammy and Jenny. There was never any doubt that she loved her children, but it is only in retrospect that we now look back over her life that we can fully appreciate everything she sacrificed and did for us.
At last it sinks in what an exceptional woman we had for a Mom. She is survived is survived by her six children, daughter Judy Carter Maple of Wild Rose and sons David N. Carter (Hope) of Martin, Michigan, Steven P. Carter (Joan) of Hammond, Wisconsin, Michael J. Carter of Wild Rose, Thomas A. Carter of Redgranite and Brian T. Carter (Anne) of Prior Lake, Minnesota. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrea L. Carter Radandt (Chris), Samantha J. Carter Pinchuk (Anthony), Jennifer A. Carter (Shawn) Peters, Adam Carter, Ian Carter, Perry Carter, Eric Carter, Allison Carter and Sydney Schneider.
Great grandchildren are Carter, Brynn, Lily, Jaxson and William and Isabella. Many, many nieces and nephews further survive her. She was the last of her generation on both sides of the family with the exception of her beloved sister-in-law Naida Huybrecht.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Perry A. Carter, infant daughter Donna Jean Carter, her parents, Fredrick and Inez Huybrecht, Step-Father Granville Lewis, in-laws Perry R. & Alma (Dobbe) Carter. Also preceding her were brothers Fredrick a/k/a Fritz (Shirley) and Kenneth Huybrecht (Naida), sisters Jeanne Ivy (Robert), June Grosjean (George), nephew Jon Huybrecht. brothers-in law Kenneth Carter (Margaret), Robert Carter (Sal), Donald Carter (Lola), Lyle Carter (Jane) and Neal Carter (Mildred).
A celebration of life will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Wild Rose on Saturday, March 2nd. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to Noon followed by personal memories from family and friends. Interment of her ashes will be at the Ravine Lane Cemetery in the Spring.
Following the memorial, a buffet luncheon will be held at the Red Fox on Silver Little Lake. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Waupaca Elder Care for the love and special care they have given Mom these past three plus years. She could not have possibly been in a better place and we so appreciate everything that was done for her.
