Obituary for Dorothy Jean Hall Dot Sweringen Dorothy Jean Hall Dot Sweringen, was born on September 4, 1936, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her parents were Fenner Ross Hall and Annie Mae Hall. She was the sixth of nine children.

Three sisters survive her: Tensy Arata, Jane Southerland (Scotty) and Patricia Rainey (Wyman). Dot’s family lived in various places in Mississippi and Alabama, before settling down in the Mobile, Alabama area. Dot graduated from Vigor High School in Prichard, Alabama, in June 1955.

She entered the Mobile Hospital School of Nursing in the fall of 1955. In January 1957, she met Bob Sweringen, a Naval Aviation Cadet. It was pretty much love at first sight, especially for Bob.

They dated when the restrictions of their training programs allowed. In late summer of 1957, Bob, who had proposed to Dot (and she said yes), went to Kingsville, Texas, for advance jet fighter training. They corresponded mainly by letter as neither had any money.

In March 1958, Bob was commissioned as a Navy Ensign and received his Navy pilot wings. He promptly headed for Mobile and Dot. On March 23rd they were married.

After a short honeymoon Bob took Dot to Tuskaloosa, Alabama, where she was in the last phase of her training to be a registered nurse. Bob headed west to the Naval Airbase Brown Field, near Chula Vista, California. Again there was lots of letter writing and a few phone calls.

Dot finished her training in August 1958. She was given a ride west with some family friends to join Bob on a permanent basis. In July 1960, Bob left the Navy and entered Chico State College.

Dot worked as a full time nurse at Enloe Hospital in Chico. In 1963, Bob started work as an educator. They entered the process of adopting a child.

In October 1963, they met and instantly fell in love with a beautiful baby girl who was two weeks old. They named her Rebecca Lynn. A year and a half later they met an awesome baby boy that they named David Lee.

About 30 years later Bob retired. Dot retired the following year. Now, Many years later our wonderful wife and mother has, on September 2, 2018, gone to be with God.

We miss her and cherish her memory. She is survived by her husband Bob; daughter, Becky and children, Samantha and Jacob; and son, David and his wife Eneida and children, Ian and Max. Preceding her in death were brothers: Richard and Ross; and sisters: Ruth, Mary and Becky.

Dot asked that we send her love to her many friends and family. She loves you all and cherished your love. Memorial plans will be made at a later date To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Dorothy Jean Hall Dot Sweringen please visit our Sympathy Store.
