Dorothy Klintworth, May 20, 1923 — November 27, 2018

Obituary for Dorothy Klintworth Dorothy P. Klintworth, 95, passed away November 27, 2018. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Russell, in 1975. A native of Grand Rapids, she spent all of her summers at the family’s cottage in Spring Lake.

Upon graduation from the University of Michigan, she taught first grade for the East Grand Rapids School District. Following her marriage in 1949 to Russell, she taught nursery school. Subsequently, she began teaching kindergarten at Holmes School in Spring Lake, she then taught kindergarten at Mary A. White school in 1962, where she remained until her retirement in 1986.

Her students were always a of special interest, affection, joy, and entertainment to her. She was very grateful and touched by how many of them kept in touch with her long after she retired. Dorothy was a believer in volunteering and participation in one’s community.

Over the years she served in many capacities: president of the local League of Women Voters; president of the Hospital Auxiliary; secretary of the Hospital Board; member of the St. Patrick’s Board of Religious Education; and member of the Salvation Army Board. Dorothy was also a member of the Council on Aging Board, the local Civic Theater Board, Duncan Park Board and Grand Haven City Compensation Board. She served as a mentor in the school Literacy Program and volunteered for many years at the hospital gift shop, as well as for the local Humane Society.

Dorothy was very active in the Spring Lake Country Club Golf Association, as well as having the privilege of becoming the 18-hole Women’s Champion four times. She is survived by her children, daughter, Kerry, son, Daniel (Alexandra) and grandson, Nick. A Mass of Christian Burial is being planned for April 2019.
