Dorothy Leona Noonan Highsmith April 18, 1927 – March 24, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Dorothy Leona Noonan Highsmith, of Castroville, passed away on Sunday afternoon, March 24, 2019 in Lytle at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 6 days. She was born April 18, 1927 in Castroville, one of nine children of George Brackenridge Noonan and Tillie Bader Noonan. Dorothy attended St. Louis Catholic School and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in San Antonio.

Dorothy was a strong, hard working woman. She raised her four children, took care of the family home, was a farmer and rancher, and a secretary at Kelly Air Force Base. After her retirement from Kelly AFB, she continued farming and ranching, taking great pride in being a good steward of the land and being a devoted caregiver to all of her animals, both large and small.

She loved her family and enjoyed taking cruises and bus trips, and visits to Las Vegas. Survivors include three of her children, David Highsmith of San Antonio, Stephen Patrick Highsmith and his wife Bonnie of Hondo, Joan Dever and her husband Kenneth of Castroville; grandchildren, Christine Dever, Katherine Dever, Julie Klauer, Shane (Sarah) Highsmith, Ashley (Brandi) Highsmith, Benjamin Highsmith, Lauren Highsmith and Theresa Chapman; great grandchildren, Ethan & Ian Scharmann, Connor and Liam Highsmith, Eren Highsmith, Bailey and Kyra Chapman; sister, Elizabeth (Lyle) Blasing; brother, John Noonan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, George B. and Tillie Noonan; daughter, Mary “Judy” Highsmith-Klauer; daughter-in-law, Rachel Highsmith; sisters, Gertrude Noonan, Mary Louise Noonan, Ruth Covell; brothers, George Noonan, Jerome Noonan, Rodney Noonan; sister-in-law, Mary Steele Noonan; brother-in-law, Jack Covell; and grandson-in-law, Gary Chapman.

Her family will hold a private service on a later date. Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s memory to St. Louis Catholic School or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home.
