HAMILTON – Dorothy Mae Allen, 86, of Hamilton passed away Monday, November 6, 2018 at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. She was born December 3, 1931 in Anaconda, MT the only child of Carl and Helen (Dudack) Harris. Dorothy attended school in Anaconda and graduated from high school in the spring of 1949.

On December 24, 1949 she married A. Frank Allen and together they had 5 children, Mary K., Frankie, Rose, Jim and Ted. The family moved to Hamilton in June of 1964 and Frank began working for the U.S. Forest Service. Dorothy worked various jobs over the years.

She was a nurse’s aid, sales clerk, furniture maker and restaurant cook. The family was very active in 4-H, gymkhanas and rodeo. Dorothy rode with the Bitterroot Mountettes from 1970 until 1980 and with the Happy Saddle Tramps from 1968 until 1980.

Dorothy loved flowers and grew them wherever they lived, including the flower beds at the Bitterroot Manor. She also loved to cook, hosting breakfasts and dinners at the Manor for the residents, and in later years Dorothy began quilting. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; infant son, Frankie; daughter, Mary K. Yerian; son-in-law, Harold Yerian; grandson, John Yerian; sister-in-law, Betty Lykins of Hamilton; and 3 infant grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Rose Toews and her 3 sons, Phillip, Ben and Sonny all of Hayden Lake, ID; son, James Allen and wife Christy of Elko, NV and their children, Daniel, Maryann and Michelle; son, Ted Allen and wife Mary (Boots) of Jackson Hole, WY and their children, Brandy, Helen and Brian; grandson, Brad Yerian and wife Teresa and their son, Brandon all of Corvallis; granddaughter, Sandra Rasmussen and husband Shawn and their children Tyler, Katie and Annamarie all of Lolo; brother-in-law, Vern Marvin of Las Vegas; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Daly-Leach Chapel with funeral services following at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery followed by a pot-luck reception in the funeral home’s community room.
