Dorothy Mae Mercer Bennett was born to John Alver and Ollie Velma Stahl Mercer on September 7, 1925, near Anson, TX. She passed on to her eternal life February 22, 2018, in Abilene, TX. Dorothy (“Dot” to some) was raised in Rotan playing in the alley behind John’s Place, her parent’s cafe.

She graduated from Rotan High School and worked at West Texas Utilities where she met Dixie Robert Bennett whom she married September 7, 1948, in Rotan. She lived in Abilene the last 3 years to be near family. Dorothy was a member of Lueders United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dixie Bennett, sister Modell Hill, brother John Mercer, precious great grandson Callan Meers.

Survivors: daughters Jo Burns of Crowley, Tx; Jimmie and Randall McGary of Crowley, TX; Myra and Mike Moreau of Abilene, TX. Grandchildren Joni Frazier and Fred Marshall, Dustin and Laurie Moreau, Molly and Joe Sims, Maggie and Bryan Meers. Great grandchildren: McKayla Frazier, Cameron Marshall; Sean, Brennan, Peyton Moreau; Jaxon, Jett Sims; Avery, Colter, Trapper Meers; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy chose to be cremated, and a private family service will be held at a later date.
