Dorothy Waldrop Weyland, daughter of Lee & Irene Bayliss, born September 8, 1928, passed on January 10, 2019, peacefully at home with her family. She married Jasper Waldrop (deceased) they had three daughters, Carolyn Jaramillo, Sandy Sargent and Susan Johnson and their grandchildren Debbie Johnson, Ellen Jaramillo-Lambert, Wendy Hansen, Kristy Martinez, Ben Johnson and Emily Stickler, and many great grandchildren. To our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, you will be dearly missed, Love Your Family.
Dorothy began her work career in 1946 at the Tooele Army Depot and Dugway Proving Grounds. She worked 36 years in civil service and 10 years working for civil contractors. She then worked in the family business, R.A. Johnson Excavating, with her daughter Susan and son in law, Robert.
Most recently her work was volunteering with the Tooele County Sheriff’s Department Senior Patrol. During her career in civil service she continually received numerous certificates of achievement, awards of appreciation and recognition for her outstanding work performance and ethic, many times being named employee of the month or year. She is truly a VIP – on her fireplace mantle are autographed photos of President and First Lady Bush, Christmas cards from them and an invite to the inauguration.
She also received an invitation to honor the late philanthropist, James LeVoy Sorenson. She was frequently invited to attend Senator and Mrs. Hatch’s Women’s Meeting, while sitting at their table along with Naomi Judd, who visited with her and gave her a gift of her autographed children’s book. Although she didn’t graduate from college, education and learning was extremely important to her and she took the opportunity to obtain and excel in as much training as possible.
Which included travel throughout the United States. It was during these times she met and made many new friends. Dorothy and her husband Jasper raised three wonderful daughters and blessed them with beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Whom she is very proud of and loves spending time with them and their families. Dorothy was very involved in serving the citizens of Tooele. She was a member of Utah Daughters of Pioneers, Historical Society of Tooele, Tooele Senior Circle, a Docent for the Railroad Museum and old Tooele Library, Survivors Club of Dugway, the Lincoln Highway project, Volunteers of America, president of the Tooele Women’s Club and many charitable organizations.
She also donated countless hours and items to Veterans Hospital, domestic violence victims, the homeless, Food Bank, Toys for Tots, making dolls for children overseas in Africa, held yard sales to earn money to donate to the needy, toys and children’s clothing to CJC, just to name a few. Dorothy has always had an interest in law enforcement. Which led her to become a member of the Tooele Police Department Senior Patrol in 2003 and Tooele County Sheriff’s Office, putting in countless hours of volunteer service for the citizens of Tooele City and County.
She was always volunteering to help with anything they needed her to do. Oftentimes she would work all day in Salt Lake, then put in a shift with the Senior Patrol. She was always cheerful, positive and fun to be around.
Her contribution to Tooele City Police Department has been immeasurable. Dorothy will be greatly missed by all. There will be a one hour visitation at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main Street, at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 15, followed by a graveside service at the Tooele City Cemetery.
