Douglas Dean Loeks, 63, of Wahpeton, ND, acted out the lyrics of his favorite song, Spirit in the Sky on Tuesday, January 8th, 2019, leaving behind a flour-bin full of Little Debbie cakes and treats, which will be served at his funeral. Doug is survived by the “catch of his life,” Lynnae, who for 43 years, grew more in love with him every day, and had the privilege of laying by his side, with their children as he finished his journey. He is also survived by children Josh, Erica (Derek) and Jake (Elizabeth); siblings Ben, Larry, Dennis, Jennifer and Darryl; grandchildren Lexy, Collin, Lydia, Adeline and Everett, who were the reason for the sparkle in his blue eyes.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wildy and Delight, his Father-in-Law Ozzie and nephew Jason. Growing up on the farm, Doug loved and learned many things: carpentry skills from his Grandpa Sander, how to try and kill a badger (emphasis on try), peeing through window screens with his brothers, skimming the cream off the tank and typical farming shenanigans. He dazzled the love of his life lynnae with his ocean blue eyes and Grizzly Adams good looks and woo’d her with a first date at Pizza Hut: And that was it, she fell for him hook line and sinker and happily gave him 3 children.

He retired from 39 years of putting sticks and stones together to make big buildings and was fortunate enough to have the 3 fingers he lost, reattached. His hobbies include hoarding and should you be reading this, you are welcome to come and help un-hoard the house , garage, shed, under the deck, behind the shed, trailer, half the farm, the back Quonset, front barn, shop, back end of pickup, the lake shed, the lake house. (no returns.

) And watching Gunsmoke. A lot. He loved caring, playing and measuring his Grandkids in hopes that they would all inherit his impressive height.

Unending thanks to every medical person and team who cared for him over the years, from the staff who snuck him cookies and to those who raided the sweet-treats bin at every hospital and clinic. Deepest gratitude for giving compassion, love and help during these years in this life, getting him ready for the next. Tremendous and unending appreciation go to his The Dialysis Center for giving him a few last quality months in this life.
