Doug’s Obituary James Douglas Zerbe, age 68, of Joplin, Missouri passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center. Doug was born April 26, 1950 in Wichita, KS, the son of the late James O. Zerbe and Joan Marie Ray. Doug grew up in Butler, Missouri, and graduated from Butler High School.

He worked for Ford Motor Company before beginning his career as a general contractor and carpenter in remodeling, home construction, and building maintenance. He worked in the Kansas City area, in Kenai, Alaska, and later settled in Lexington, Kentucky before moving to Joplin, Missouri in 2010. In addition to his father, Doug was preceded in death by his stepmother Janet Zerbe, and stepfather Denzil McDonald; brothers Marc Zerbe, Scott McDonald, and Joe Denzil McDonald; and sister Dana Zerbe.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Zerbe of Joplin, MO; daughter Heather Hanson of Ohio; sons Heath Zerbe of Overland Park, KS and Dustin (Lindsay) Zerbe of Adrian, MO; mother Joan McDonald of Houston, MO; brothers Gary (Kathryn) Zerbe of Houston, MO, Andy McDonald of Torrance, CA, and Brad (Kenda) Zerbe of Overland Park, KS; sister Nancy (Mark) Schrag of Homer, AK; five grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. No formal services are planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
