Eric Stone Lynn was born June 13, 1945 to George Lynn and Betty Fay Lynn in Muskogee, OK. He lived in Princeton, NJ as a small child where his father, George, was attending graduate school eventually becoming director of Westminster Choir College. His parents separated when he was 2 years old and he moved back to Edmond, OK with his mother, grandparents and great-grandmother whom he adored.
He would visit his father in Colorado regularly, and had a wonderful relationship with his stepmother, Lucille Lynn and his two sisters, Christina and Lorna. Eric was an outstanding student and enjoyed riding his Mustang motorcycle his grandfather restored for him. His loyal dog, Queenie, followed him to school every day and waited for him outside until school was dismissed when they would walk back home together.
He excelled in academics becoming Salutatorian and Vice-President of his class at Edmond Memorial High School. Additionally, he was a well-rounded and respected athlete. He played football as center and was all conference offensive player of the year.
He was the wrestling captain and a state champion wrestler his senior year at 138 pounds. He also ran track and came in third at the State Track meet. Eric received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, but instead chose to wrestle for Myron Roderick at Oklahoma State University on scholarship.
He drove a white TD MG at college and always was under the hood tuning and repairing something to keep it going. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and it was at OSU where he met his wife of almost 50 years, Virginia Ann Gage. Eric and Virginia were engaged while Eric served in Vietnam in the United States Navy and married upon his return.
Together they had their daughter, Courtney, and the family eventually moved to Pryor, Oklahoma. Eric attended Optometry School in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, while Virginia taught Art in the Public Schools. They built their home in Pryor during this time, where they have lived thirty-eight years.
Eric graduated from optometry School and began practicing in Pryor, first with Dr. Beason, D.O., then he joined Dr. David Reinecke, M.D., at the Pryor Eye Clinic for twenty-three years, retiring two years ago. He died in Tulsa January 23rd surrounded by his family. He was a believer in Jesus Christ and The Holy Trinity.
Eric is survived by his wife Virginia of Pryor, OK; his daughter Courtney and son-in-law Walter of Stillwater, OK; two granddaughters Chloe and Molly of Stillwater, OK; his sister Christina and brother-in-law Alex of Colorado and sister Lorna and brother-in-law Harold; niece and nephew Anna and Jacob of Pennsylvania. Eric spent many happy lunches at the Pryor East Side Cafe with friends and friendly staff. He wanted us to thank his many friends and neighbors who visited him while he was ill.
The family also wants to thank all who have helped and showed concern both during his illness and afterwards.
