Dr. George T. Michael, PhD, the developer of the now famous “Fenway Franks” passed away on Monday, September 3rd. He leaves his wife, Dianne Devereaux-Michael, his sons, George Michael of Waltham and his fiancée Kathleen, Kenneth Michael and his wife Deborah Michael of Norwood, and his daughter Dawn D’Agastino and her husband Gerald D’Agastino of Waltham, his son Christopher Smith of Salem, his stepson John J. Devereaux and his wife Christine of Haverhill, his stepson Ronald E. Devereaux of Glendale, Arizona, his stepdaughter Heather J. Devereaux of Amsterdam, Kingdom of the Netherlands, and stepdaughter Elizabeth A. Devereaux of Cambridge, Massachusetts. He also leaves his grandchildren, Kenneth Michael, Kasey Michael, Kristina Michael and Anthony D’Agastino.

Dr. Michael was born in Boston, grew up in Marshfield and attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He then gained his MS degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his doctorate at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His thesis was on the “Regeneration of DNA after Radiation”.

Dr. Michael, in addition to developing food products for many major food corporations, taught nutrition classes for the nursing program at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell and Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts. Dr. Michael gave lectures to the players of the Boston Red Sox on the detrimental effects of steroid use at the Fort Myers training facility on several occasions. He developed Nutri-Nectar, a complete protein powder that was popular with the sports community.

He moved to Salem, New Hampshire in 2007 and was active in many local organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Salem and the Food Pantry at the Methodist Church in Salem. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 11, at 11:00AM in Mary Queen of Peace Church, 200 Lawrence Road, Salem, NH.
